Apple works on new diary app that analyses users' day-to-day activities
It seems Apple is working on a new app for iPhones. It is said to be a diary app that tracks users' daily activities, which Apple says should contribute to their mental health. This will track how a day is spent but the app would also suggest topics to write about. Read more about this interesting news below.
Documents from The Wall Street Journal
These new rumours come from the usually reliable The Wall Street Journal. Although Apple itself has not yet officially confirmed the plans, it does look like this app is coming. The app would become part of a broader initiative from Apple regarding (mental) health. Apple previously added options to track physical health by measuring steps, for example. There are, of course, already diary apps in the App Store that help track mental health, but none of them were created by Apple itself. In the future, Apple's app is likely to be installed by default on all iPhones so you can use it right away.
Code name Jurassic
Codenamed 'Jurassic', the diary app will track what an average user's day looks like. For example, how much time is spent indoors or elsewhere, or how certain days were "normal" or " typical" for the user. The app will also track how much social contact a user has had in a day. According to The Wall Street Journal, in doing so, the app may also start distinguishing between colleagues and close contacts. The app can then suggest topics a user might start writing about, these suggestions will remain on the iPhone for four weeks. The newspaper also writes that all data collected will be processed on the device itself and no information will be shared with Apple or other parties. The editors were able to see internal documents showing Apple's growing commitment to the mental and physical well-being of its users.
iOS 17
It is likely that the app is scheduled at the same time as the release of the new major software update for iPhone, iOS 17, which will take place during the major developer conference WWDC in June. There will then first be an early test version for developers to work with, after which everyone can start installing the major update around September and thus possibly have the new diary app on their iPhone. In any case, we are curious about this new app and how it works!
