Samsung unpacked event coming up: what do we know so far about the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5?

Samsung will unveil its long-awaited new folding phones: the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Fold 5 on 26 July at its own Unpacked event in Seoul South Korea. With leaked images and much speculation surrounding the new models, Samsung has finally announced the official presentation date. The event will kick off at 13:00 Dutch time and can be followed via a livestream. Interestingly, Samsung is organising its Unpacked event in its own country this time. Read more about what to expect here.

Galaxy Z Fold 5
The invitation to the event immediately piques curiosity because of the funny text: "join the flip side". This obviously hints at the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5. Let's start with the Galaxy Z Fold 5, which will reportedly have a large 7.6-inch screen on the inside and a 6.2-inch screen on the outside. One notable improvement is in the hinge mechanism. When the Fold 5 is folded shut, both sides lie flat on top of each other, making the device thinner and eliminating a gap between the two halves of the casing. The overall design of the Fold 5 is very similar to its predecessor, with only minor changes at the rear cameras.

Then we have the new Flip 5, which is expected to have a larger external display that allows you to use different apps. Samsung is working with Google on adjustments to apps to make them work best on the external screen. Both folding phones will be powered by the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, the same chip found in the Galaxy S23. Samsung will also reportedly unveil a new tablet at the event, in all likelihood the Galaxy Tab S9. Besides the base model, Plus and Ultra versions of the tablet will also be available.

Samsung market leader in folding phones
Samsung has been in the folding phone market since 2019, with the introduction of the Galaxy Fold. Since then, the company has been releasing improved versions every year and is the market leader in folding smartphones. Fold phones are particularly popular in South Korea, with almost 14% of phones sold there being foldable models. Globally, that percentage was just 1% last year, although they are becoming increasingly popular. So on 26 July, we will finally get all the details about the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Fold 5 and possibly the new Galaxy Tab S9. It promises to be a great event for Samsung lovers and tech enthusiasts worldwide. In any case, we will be watching live so we can keep you updated!
