Research shows iPhone is the most popular smartphone in the Netherlands among young people
Interesting news: some 60 percent of young people in the Netherlands own an iPhone. According to a survey by Telecompaper, Dutch young people have increasingly switched to an iPhone in recent years and moved away from other brands. The surveyed youth group consists of a group between the ages of 18 and 24. In 2018, the percentage of iPhone owners was still 51 percent.
Popularity of the iPhone
The above survey was conducted among 5,000 young people by Telecompaper, which surveyed the same number every month about smartphone usage. By the way, Apple is not the leader in our country, that is Samsung. However, Samsung is slowly being overtaken by Apple. Samsung's share among young people dropped from 29 to 23 percent in four years. Only 22 percent of young people indicate a preference for Samsung when buying a new device, compared to 27 percent four years ago. So, a catch-up for iPhones and a nice setback for Samsung devices.
iPhone less popular among older people
According to the same survey, 35 percent of Dutch people own an iPhone, regardless of age group. This was a bit lower in 2018, at 30 percent. Samsung remains the leader with a 43 percent market share in the Netherlands. This has remained relatively unchanged in recent years. Samsung is particularly popular among older people in the Netherlands, and has become increasingly so in recent years. Of those over 55, 53 percent have a Samsung and only 25 percent have an iPhone. Incidentally, Apple is said to be slightly more popular than Samsung in the 24-35 age group. So the trend is there that slowly the iPhone really does start to take over the market entirely, provided one thing and another happens in the smartphone world.
Small role of the other smartphone brands
Apple and Samsung collectively hold 60 percent and 23 percent of the market among the younger audience. The remaining percentage is divided among brands such as Oppo, Xiaomi, Sony, OnePlus, Motorola, Poco and Nokia. Telecompaper's article does not break down the market shares in its report on the remaining brands. Huawei sank nicely in recent years due to U.S. sanctions against the company. From this, Apple managed to benefit the most, according to Telecompaper.
