Samsung Display shows screen that can be folded 360 degrees
Fun news for all Samsung fans, Samsung Display has in fact shown a cool new variant of Flex In & Out, an OLED screen that can be folded 360 degrees with one fold. In addition, the screen has a new hinge, which should make the fold in the screen less visible. Read more about this cool tech news soon!
Samsung creates 360 degree screen
At the CES 2023 trade show, Samsung Display already showed the 360-degree screen prototype, but now comes out with additional specifications about the foldable screen. With a Flex In & Out screen, the screen can be on the inside of the fold like the current Galaxy Fold devices, but also on the outside of the fold. Currently, for example, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a foldable screen, but it bends only 180 degrees. As a result, the display cannot go beyond completely flat. So with this new variant, that may change, as you can fold 360 degrees. This way, a future version of the Galaxy Z Fold would then no longer need a second screen because with the display on the outside, you use it as a normal device and if you put the screen in your pocket, you just fold it closed to protect the device from scratches.
New drop-shaped hinge
Aside from the new 360-degree screen, there is a newly designed hinge where the fold of the screen is meant to have a "water-drop shape" when it is inside the fold. This fold is less tight than on current devices, so there will be less pressure on the screen. This also makes the crease less visible. The Motorola Razr 2022 already features a similar hinge. Samsung Display has previously shown a Flex In & Out screen but it had two folds that can both be folded up to 180, similar to the S-Foldable. Samsung also showed the Flex Hybrid at the CES trade show, a fold-out screen with an extendable element. If and when these Flex Hybrid screens will appear is not yet known.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5
In all likelihood, Samsung will start presenting the new Galaxy Z Fold 5 in the upcoming summer. Incidentally, the same goes for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, Samsung's new folding device. These devices will most likely run on the super-fast Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip that we will also find in the Samsung Galaxy S23 devices. In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 may get a built-in S Pen and a 108-megapixel main camera. We are very curious about these new devices from Samsung!
