With competition in foldable devices starting to get fiercer, Samsung has found a way to differentiate itself in offerings. For instance, Samsung is said to be focusing on bringing back the visibility of the fold in the next Galaxy Z Fold 5, improved cameras and an integrated S Pen. Read more about this interesting news in this article.
New folding screen
The crease edge in the Galaxy Z Fold 5's foldable screen should be prevented by giving the screen a water drop shape when folding. With this technique, the screen does not make a tight fold when folded, but sits bulged in the hinge. This prevents the fold edge from remaining visible when unfolding. Until now, Samsung was reluctant to adopt a crease-free design, where competitors were already doing so. The South Korean company did so because they feared it would not be conducive to longevity. However, they have now found a way anyway, the water-drop shape (aka dumbbell hinge), to make this possible without compromising the durability of the device.
Other cool news is that Samsung plans to focus on an improved camera for this device. For instance, the resolution would go up from 50 to 108 megapixels, which will bring the performance on par with Samsung's current flagship models. The zoom camera will also get an improved design with 64 megapixels and up to 2x optical zoom.
Integrated S Pen
Samsung is also said to have found room in the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to integrate an S Pen. With the Note series gone, you can only find the S Pen on the S22 Ultra. You can also use the S Pen with the current Fold, however, you cannot yet store it. Fortunately, this is now likely to change, so you no longer have to worry about a "loose" S Pen. From now on, you can conveniently store it with the device. However, we still have to be patient; the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is not expected until autumn 2023. Plenty of time left for other rumours and other exciting Galaxy Fold news!
