For a long time there were rumors that the new AirPods Pro 2 would not be presented during the event where Apple also announced the iPhone 14. However, they did and we, at least, are excited about Apple's new earbuds. Let's take a look at what the AirPods Pro 2 are all about.
Appearance of the AirPods Pro 2
In terms of appearance, not much has actually changed from the previous AirPods Pro. This is interesting, since Apple did opt for an entirely new design with the AirPods 3. Of course, there are some changes to the appearance, but they are quite small and almost invisible. The real difference is in other (new) features, sound quality and wearing comfort.
Changes on the inside
On the inside, we see quite a difference from the predecessor. The AirPods Pro 2 use the H2 chip, Apple's audio processor. This ensures that noise cancellation is a lot better than with the previous AirPods Pro, this processor processes sound at about 48,000 per second! The new earbuds also have spatial sound and you can listen for about six hours of uninterrupted listening without charging. Up to thirty hours with a charged case, by the way. Also very cool; should you lose your charging case, you can make it make a sound so you can find it easily! The acoustics of the AirPods Pro 2 are the same as the AirPods 3, which involves a combination of custom high amplitude drive units and high dynamic range amplifiers. Sounds very technical but it just means the sound is a lot better than its predecessor. That aside, a self-learning equalizer, spatial audio, dynamic head tracking and audio sharing are also present. Quite a bit of technology in such small earbuds!
New features
Working out hard? Thanks to the new motion sensors, you no longer need an Apple Watch to do certain exercises. Also handy; the integration of the "find my" app. This makes it easy to find your AirPods, since you can easily lose them. Now you don't have to search for a long time, because through the app you can simply play a sound to find them again that way. In addition, one of the most anticipated features is that you can now finally control the volume with touch gestures. For example, you swipe your finger across the stem of the AirPods Pro 2 to turn the sound up or down. Playing, stopping, starting or answering a call are still done with a simple tap like you're used to.
Wear comfort
The AirPods Pro 2 also have improved wearing comfort over its predecessor; for example, soft and flexible silicone ear tips are included in different sizes. This was also the case with the predecessor, but the Pro 2 also comes with an extra narrow ear tip for the first time. You can choose from L, M, S and XS. In addition, the new ear tips are more comfortable to wear and less likely to fall out of your ear!
Conclusion
We think the AirPods Pro 2 are a real upgrade! But of course, that's okay after a long time. Especially since the AirPods Pro were already quite a bit behind and even overtaken in terms of features by the AirPods 3. The AirPods Pro 2 really shows why you still want the Pro version! The improved wireless connectivity, better sound quality, better noise cancellation and touch controls are just really solid.
