Apple does not increase production for iPhone 14, higher demand for base models fails to materialize
Remarkable news; Apple is not going to increase production of new iPhone 14 devices. This is because the company had expected a higher demand, but it turns out there is no such demand after all. As a result, roughly the same number of devices will still be made as last year. Read on soon for more details on this remarkable news.
Anonymous source passes on information to Bloomberg
In the past six months, about 6 million fewer devices would have to be made than originally anticipated, anonymous sources tell the always well-informed Bloomberg. The expected sales would have been increased by about 7% but this now turns out not to be the case, according to the sources, and therefore an increase in production is not necessary. Apple produced about 90 million devices, which is roughly in line with earlier estimates for the iPhone 13 and 12 series.
Especially lower demand for the basic models
If Bloomberg is to be believed, there is mainly reduced demand for the standard iPhone models, the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Consumers seem to be mainly interested in the more expensive iPhone 14 Pro models. This could mean that suppliers have to switch some of their production from cheaper models to the production of the more expensive Pro devices. There also appears to be a demand shortage in the electronics sector, according to Bloomberg. After supply problems and a shortage of chips last year, consumers are said to want to buy less hardware these days. This creates an inventory surplus, which would be the reason for adjusting production orders downward.
The future
In any case, we are very curious to see what this will mean for the future of Apple and, for example, the iPhone 15 models. Perhaps much of this development has also come about because the differences between the basic and Pro models are getting bigger and bigger, consumers prefer a modern device with a better camera and for example 120Hz refresh rate. An interesting development for the future, who knows, maybe Apple decides to bring all devices closer together again in terms of hardware after all, or maybe they just make the differences even bigger. Time will tell! In any case, check out our selection for iPhones here.
