iPhone 15 Pro still gets 'old-fashioned' buttons after all
It seems that the iPhone 15 Pro will still get the "traditional" moving buttons to adjust volume with, as iPhones have now. It was previously claimed that these buttons will be replaced by "fixed" buttons with a haptic motor, like the old home button on iPhones. Read more why here.
No pressure sensor with haptic motor after all
So, according to the always well-informed Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is pulling back from volume buttons that would be replaced with keys that do not move. So the touch sensor that sees when you touch the buttons, after which a vibrating motor (haptic motor) gives the illusion of a button press, is not coming. You can compare this technique to, say, the iPhone 7, which did the same with the home button, or, say, MacBooks with the touchpad. Making these kinds of buttons is quite complex but certainly brings advantages. For instance, they don't move when you press them, so they won't break so easily. Because they do not move, no holes need to be made in the phone's frame, which saves work and allows Apple to make the iPhone even more water-resistant.
Apple has technical problems
According to Kuo, Apple is not doing this anyway because of technical problems. As a result, the buttons would not be ready in time for mass production of the next iPhones. As a result, it is opting for the classic buttons again to meet demand. It is common knowledge that Kuo has close ties within Apple's production chain, as he already managed to correctly reveal several unannounced products in advance. So we assume he is right again this time.
USB-C and other changes
Furthermore, it seems that the design of the iPhone 15 is going to be changed in minor ways. For instance, according to insiders, the pill-shaped camera hole at the top of the screen (Dynamic Island) is going to be applied to all iPhone 15 models, instead of just the Pro devices. That would be nice news, as the Dynamic Island has been very well received. As an aside to that, all iPhone 15 devices will in all likelihood get a USB-C connector. This is because the European Union is demanding that all smartphones start getting the same connection port, so Apple will have to discontinue the Lightning connector. As usual, Apple will announce the new iPhone 15 devices around September.
In any case, we are very curious about the new iPhone 15 devices!
